5. The Ella to Kandy Train Ride 🚂
The train journey from Ella through Nanu Oya to Kandy is considered one of the most scenic train rides in the world. With rolling hills, tea fields, and misty mountains, it’s a journey you’ll never forget.
We include the famous train ride in many of our round tours. Your driver will drop you at the station in Ella and meet you again in Nanu Oya so you can simply relax and enjoy the journey. The best part is that you don’t have to carry your luggage onto the train. We look after it for you, making the experience safe, comfortable and completely stress free, just the way we like to travel.
6. Sunshine All Year Round 🌞
One of the things we love most about Sri Lanka is the sunshine all year round. With two monsoon seasons, the magic is that when one coast gets rain, the other side is sunny – so it’s always a good time to visit. Here in Hikkaduwa, where we live, the peak season runs from December to April. For summer holidays, we pack up and head to the East Coast. Trincomalee is amazing for diving and snorkelling, while Arugam Bay has the best surfing and laid-back beach vibes. (The photo below is of our kids enjoying Arugam Bay – one of our favourite family spots!)

7. A Surfer’s Paradise 🌊
Sri Lanka offers waves for every season! Arugam Bay on the east coast is world-famous for surfing during summer, while Hikkaduwa and the south coast light up with perfect swells in winter.
8. The World’s Highest Leopard Density 🐆
Yala National Park is world-famous for having the highest leopard density on the planet. Heading out on safari with the hope of spotting one of these elusive big cats is a truly unforgettable adventure. While many travelers are lucky enough to see a leopard lounging on a tree branch or crossing the path, it’s important to remember that sightings are never guaranteed. That’s the beauty of wildlife – it’s real, raw and unpredictable.
For those who prefer a quieter and more off-the-beaten-track experience, Wilpattu National Park is another fantastic choice. It has fewer visitors than Yala, and while the chances of seeing leopards are lower, many are spotted here throughout the year. No matter which park you choose, safaris in Sri Lanka are about so much more than just leopards. You’ll encounter elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and countless birds in their natural habitats.
9. A Birdwatcher’s Dream 🦜
With over 500 species of birds, including many endemics, Sri Lanka is a paradise for birdwatchers. Visit wetlands, rainforests, or national parks to spot colorful kingfishers, hornbills, and more.
10. One of the Oldest Rainforests on Earth 🌿
Sinharaja Rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the oldest surviving rainforests in the world. It’s bursting with rare plants, birds, and wildlife – a must-visit for nature lovers.
Sri Lanka is more than just a holiday spot.
It’s a mix of culture, adventure, wildlife, and natural beauty that you won’t find anywhere else.
