What we love to include in our tours 🐢🐘🌿

Sri Lanka is one of the best destinations in Asia for wildlife experiences. From elephants and leopards on safari to turtles and tropical fish in the ocean, the country offers incredible opportunities to see animals in the wild.

But with that comes responsibility.

Here at   At Ease Tours & Transport, we’re very conscious about the experiences we include in our tours. We don’t support animals being kept in captivity, mistreated, or used for entertainment

Please! First read this article: 🚫🚫 6 Tourist Experiences We Avoid (and Why You Should Too)!!

Here are some of our favourite ethical wildlife experiences we love to share with our guests:

No shows. No selfies. No touching.

Just the magic of seeing animals wild & free 💚

1) 🐘 Spot wild elephants & leopards on safari

Going on safari in Sri Lanka is something truly special.

In the national parks, animals roam freely, and every sighting feels like a privilege, not a guarantee.

With the right guides, the focus is always on:

  • keeping a respectful distance
  • not disturbing the animals
  • and letting nature lead the experience

You might see elephants bathing, a leopard resting in a tree, or buffalo crossing your path 🐾 It’s wild, unpredictable, and completely real.

2) 🐢 Snorkel with turtles in their natural home

One of the most magical experiences on the south coast 💙

In Hikkaduwa, you can simply float in the ocean and watch turtles glide past you.

No feeding.

No chasing.

No touching.

Just you, the sea, and these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat 🫧 And honestly… that’s what makes it so special.

3) 🤿 Scuba diving with marine life

For those who want to explore a bit deeper, Sri Lanka has some amazing dive spots. With certified dive centres, you can discover:

  • colourful coral reefs
  • schools of tropical fish
  • sea turtles
  • and sometimes even reef sharks

4) 🌿 Explore the rainforest – Sinharaja

If you love nature, this is a must.

The Sinharaja Rainforest is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the last untouched rainforests in Sri Lanka. Walking through it feels like stepping into another world. It’s humid, wild, and incredibly alive. 🌳 With a knowledgeable local guide, you might spot:

  • snakes and lizards
  • rare birds
  • frogs and butterflies
  • unique plants and towering trees

5) 🌄 Hiking in the highlands

Sri Lanka’s highlands are a dream if you love combining nature, wildlife, and a bit of adventure 🥾

There are so many beautiful areas to explore on foot. Around Ella you can hike to viewpoints like Ella Rock and Little Adam’s Peak, while Knuckles Mountain Range offers more remote trails with incredible biodiversity. In Haputale, you’ll find scenic walks through tea plantations and cloud forests, and in Belihuloya, there are hidden waterfalls and lush jungle paths waiting to be explored 🌿

One of my personal favourite places, though, is Horton Plains National Park.

This is a unique high-altitude plateau where you can walk a circular trail through open grasslands and misty forest. The highlight is World’s End:  a dramatic drop with incredible views on a clear morning. If you go early (which you should!), you’ll often see sambar deer grazing quietly in the fog, along with monkeys and plenty of birdlife 🦌

6) 🐘 Visit (the correct!) Elephant Transit Home

The Elephant Transit Home, close to Udawalawa National park is is the only elephant facility we recommend in Sri Lanka. This place focuses on rehabilitation.  helping orphaned elephants grow strong before being released back into the wild.

Visitors observe from a distance during feeding times, without interaction.

No riding.

No bathing.

No performances.

Just elephants being elephants 🐘💚 And that’s exactly how it should be.

7) 🐒 Wildlife is everywhere

One of the best things about Sri Lanka? You don’t always have to go looking for wildlife.

You’ll see monkeys along the roads, birds in the gardens, and sometimes even elephants while driving between destinations.

It’s all part of the journey, and often the moments people remember the most!

🌱 Travel Sri Lanka with a conscience

The best wildlife experiences are the ones where animals stay wild and nature comes first. 💚 Those are the moments you’ll never forget!
