Family friendly tour, travelling slow with kids: Beaches, jungle, safari and surfing.

Travelling Sri Lanka with young children can be both easy and incredibly rewarding.
The secret? Choosing the right route and keeping a relaxed, child-friendly pace 🌴

This two-week family adventure along Sri Lanka’s south coast was created for three families travelling together, with six children aged between three and eight years old 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
The focus was simple: surfing, swimming, exploring wildlife and jungle – without long, tiring driving days 🚗💨

That’s why we stayed along the south coast only.
More time to play, explore and relax – with plenty of nature, beautiful beaches and fun for both kids and adults 🐘🏄☀️

The journey began in Hikkaduwa with relaxed beach days, pool time and easy evenings at local restaurants. A perfect start to help the children settle in and simply enjoy being on holiday. 🏝️Our own hotel, At Ease Beach Hotel has that perfect kids friendly vibe 💙

From there, the round tour continued to Kanneliya Rainforest, where even a short and gentle walk turned into a real adventure. The children spotted colourful lizards, millipedes amd monkeys. 🐛🐵

Next stop was Weligama Beach, staying three nights in a laid-back beach town ideal for beginner surf lessons and slow family days by the sea. 🏄🌴

One of the big highlights was an early morning safari in Yala National Park, where the families were lucky enough to see a baby elephant with its mother and even a leopard. 🐘🐆

On the way back along the coast, the tour included three nights at Dalawella Beach (near Unawatuna) Calm water, swimming suitable for small children, and turtles 🐢💚

The tour ended where it began, back in Hikkaduwa, with more easy beach days and time to unwind.

Hikkaduwa has a variety of activities, like surfing, snorkling, boat trips and with the best selection of lively beach restaurants it´s a hit for families.

This itinerary is just one example of how a slow paced, nature filled family holiday in Sri Lanka can work beautifully for families.
